A community of honor
Amsterdam
Update
Romans
12: 9-21
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what
is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one
another above yourselves.
What does it mean to
Honor?
Honor: To honor is to understand
that each person has great value, that they are extraordinary!!!!!

Practical
ways to Honor each other:
We honor
with our tongues and our ears: Protecting our hearts
We honor
not only with what we say but also with what we are willing to listen to.
Proverbs 15:2
We honor
when we challenge and correct:
We honor
one another with our eyes, hands, feet, ears, and mouths: With our
Countenance.
Numbers 6:24-26
Mark
6:2-6 “A
prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in
his own home.”
It is more difficult to love and
honor, those who are close to you, than those who are new to you
Why is
that?
1.
It’s hard to
give away what we are starving for.
2.
Familiarity
breeds contempt.
There is something that happens when we become familiar with
one another’s weaknesses that cause us to dishonor each other.
So we wind up with withholding honor at exactly the time
when we need it the most. When we begin to truly know each
other.
The deepest longing in the human soul is to be loved
unconditionally with out reserve despite all of our flaws.
Dan
Davis: In a church that promotes honor we should cover one another’s
weaknesses and encourage each other’s strengths
