Last week we saw King David sinned a lot. Is that OK? No but God gives us MERCY instead of our deserved punishment Main Point: Jesus had great MERCY on us. So shouldn’t we pass on MERCY to others? Sermon Assignment: 1. Look for 3 things you can do in your daily life (right now) to bless others with mercy. 2. What can I do to BECOME a more merciful person? STORY TIME -Tell Kyle’s Story – The MERCY God gave him -Why was he in hell? -He grew up knowing about the solution as Pastor’s son. -He never did anything about his sin that SEPARATED him from God. -Do you want mercy when you sin? D-Eleos (1656) – Mercy is extended for and is the alleviation of the consequences of sin. (the evil reaping) -How do we get mercy when we sin? -Did Kyle get mercy for his sin? -Not at first. 1. must remove sin SEPARATION from God. HOW?____________GRACE________________? -How do we get grace initially? -Humbling ourselves and confessing our need for a SAVIOR 1. to recue us from our SEPARATION from GOD and: 2. from the punishment/reaping for our sin -Jesus took all our punishment on the Cross -Receiving God’s GRACE by Accepting what Jesus Christ did at the Cross for us (for our sin-separation problem) D-Grace-the unearned and unmerited favor of God. God’s free gift to us. (FOR ANYTHING) -Greatest offer of grace is Jesus crucified for our sins -Free gift BUT we must humble ourselves, admit we need it, and receive it by faith. =SALVATION in Jesus -Assuming we have received Jesus free, grace-filled offer at the Cross, now what do we do when we sin? 1 John 1:9 (another example of God’s grace to us) If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. BUT what about the consequences and suffering that comes from sin? John 5:14 – After Jesus healed the paralytic Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “Behold, you have become well; do not sin anymore, so that nothing worse happens to you.” Gal. 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. 2. If we have Jesus we can ask for MERCY! Why? -Because Jesus paid on Cross our punishment, evil consequences for all our sin SO WE DO NOT HAVE TO Hebrews 4:16 Therefore, let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. AMP- Therefore let us [with privilege] approach the throne of grace [that is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment]. -Very COOL, but does that mean we can just keep sinning? -Do our hidden sins hurt anyone? -YES!!! -It hurts us, our family and those around us. -BUT it also affects the whole body of Christ -What does it do to our nation? -Great Roman empire -bad moral decline last 50-100 yrs of their 950 year reign. -Sin collapsed Rome -Thank God we can get right with God and start again. But we must -1 John 1:9 -Repent -Heb. 4:16 receive mercy and grace -Romans 13:14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts. (Coming soon healthy Kingdom lifestyle 2 Pet. 1:1-12) DO YOU LIKE MERCY (alleviation of consequences of sin received by faith Heb 4:16 or no alleviation Do NOT miss this benefit – I am amazed by it. -Mercy is GREAT NEWS Now that YOU have received mercy – do you think you could start living to give MERCY to others??? STORY of poor farmer and 2 boys Mt. 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Luke 6:36 Be merciful (responsive, compassionate, tender) just as your[heavenly] Father is merciful.
